Hydraulic oil serves as the working medium in hydraulic transmission systems, playing a crucial role in energy transfer, conversion, and control. At the same time, it provides lubrication, corrosion prevention, rust inhibition, and cooling for various components within the hydraulic system. Controlling contamination in construction machinery hydraulic systems ensures their normal operation, thereby extending the machinery's service life and enhancing its value. To effectively control hydraulic oil contamination, it is essential to select the right hydraulic oil: a. Choose high-grade anti-wear hydraulic oils; whenever possible, opt for hydraulic oils that match the original manufacturer’s specified brand and grade. Currently, there are numerous manufacturers and suppliers of hydraulic oils both domestically and internationally, and hydraulic oils vary significantly in quality—some are superior, while others are inferior or even counterfeit and substandard.

How do you determine whether a bearing can be reused? Pay attention to the bearing grease seal.

To decide whether a bearing can be reused, the China Lubricant Network recommends considering factors such as the extent of bearing damage, machine performance, the importance of the component, operating conditions, and inspection results.
A Brief Discussion on the Uncertainty of Base Oils
As the variety and availability of base oils on the market continue to expand, lubricant suppliers are also making ongoing efforts to better understand the differences among various types of base oils, thereby gaining a clearer grasp of the relative performance advantages each type offers. Giovanni Loizzo, Head of Base Oil Procurement at Lubrizol, highlighted several base-oil-related questions frequently raised by lubricant formulation developers when designing engine oils. Base oils are the primary components of lubricants, accounting for anywhere from 75% to 90% of the formulation in passenger car or heavy-duty vehicle engine oils. The properties of different base oils vary significantly from one another, which can have a substantial impact on the overall performance of the lubricant.

However, at some point, it might become necessary to consider a dedicated off-road performance specification or develop unique products better suited to this market. Sometimes, the development of heavy-duty engines seems like that of a slow but steady turtle, whereas the development of passenger-car engines resembles that of a swiftly darting hare. Nevertheless, heavy-duty engine oils are steadily moving in the same direction as light-duty oils, with sulfur ash content emerging as a newer focus—particularly in off-road applications. Fuel economy is driving demand among Chevron’s heavy-duty original equipment manufacturers.

Although genuine imported motor oils are of high quality, it’s often difficult for ordinary consumers to tell them apart. The “production + service” model is becoming the direction for lubricant companies.
In the post-pandemic era, as demand for lubricants declines, the “production + service” supply-chain model should become the development direction for domestic lubricant manufacturers and distributors. This was the key message conveyed at the second session of the second general meeting of the Shandong Province Lubricant Industry Association, held in Jinan on June 27. At the meeting, experts pointed out that due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, both domestic and international demand for lubricants has declined. Specifically, domestic demand for lubricants is expected to drop by 7% to 10% year-on-year. However, China’s current oil-grade structure lags behind the evolving environmental standards for vehicles; thus, there remains considerable room for improvement in China’s oil-grade levels in the future, which could lead to an increase in demand for lubricants. Zhang Chenhui, deputy director of the Specialized Committee of the National Lubricant Enterprises Alliance, noted that, amid the decline in lubricant demand caused by the pandemic, lubricant companies need to innovate their production and sales models—shifting from a focus on quantity growth to one emphasizing quality enhancement and efficiency improvement. They should develop high-quality, specialized, and niche products, moving away from a single-product structure toward product diversification. At the same time, lubricant companies should also enhance the service levels provided by their sales networks. According to Da Jianwen, head of the expert panel of the Specialized Committee on Research and Application of Special Oil (Wax) Production Technologies, the impact of the pandemic will see domestic sales replacing imports, making it more important than ever to expand domestic sales channels. Nevertheless, in areas such as specialty oils—for example, oils used in vaccines and nuclear power—China still largely relies on imports. Therefore, domestic lubricant companies must persist in pursuing a path of differentiation, specialization, and high-end development, continuously enhancing the added value of their products to meet the new demands of the post-pandemic era.
