Viscosity is one of the primary factors that must be considered in hydraulic systems for construction machinery. Viscosity is an indicator of a fluid's flow performance, reflecting the magnitude of frictional resistance between molecules as the fluid flows. If the viscosity is too high, it will increase the flow resistance in pipelines, leading to greater energy losses during operation, increased no-load losses in the main unit, and a rise in temperature—potentially causing cavitation at the suction port of the main pump. On the other hand, if the viscosity is too low, it will fail to ensure adequate lubrication of mechanical components, accelerating wear and tear on parts and increasing system leakage, thereby reducing the volumetric efficiency of the pump. Even hydraulic oils with the same viscosity grade can differ from one another! The term "viscosity-temperature characteristic" refers to the degree to which a fluid's viscosity changes as the temperature rises or falls.

How to Choose Lubricating Oil in Winter
After winter sets in and the weather turns colder, maintaining proper lubrication with engine oil becomes a crucial factor in ensuring your vehicle runs smoothly. Car enthusiasts must pay close attention to this. So, how should we properly use engine oil during winter? Under suitable conditions, the lower the viscosity, the better. As the saying goes, “The most important thing in life is making the right choices”—and this holds true for engine oil as well. In winter, the lower the viscosity of the engine oil, the better—provided it still meets the requirements for normal lubrication of mechanical components. Normally viscous oils tend to become thicker and more viscous when temperatures drop in winter, reducing their fluidity and prolonging the time it takes for them to reach the parts that need lubrication. As a result, they fail to deliver optimal lubrication, potentially leading to vehicle problems.
How do you choose between “normal” and “high-pressure” hydraulic oil?
Those familiar with hydraulic oils know that they come in two main types: “standard” and “high-pressure.” Let me briefly explain the difference: L-HM hydraulic oil, commonly referred to as anti-wear hydraulic oil, is developed by enhancing and improving the anti-wear performance of the standard HL-type hydraulic oil. This makes it suitable for hydraulic systems with anti-wear requirements. However, for hydraulic systems operating under different pressure levels, it’s important to select the appropriate product. When the system pressure ranges from 7.0 to 14 MPa and the system temperature is between 50 and 80°C, the system is considered medium-to-high pressure, and standard anti-wear hydraulic oil can be used.
