What are the possible reasons for the oil warning light to come on?

The oil warning light typically comes on due to insufficient oil pressure in the lubrication system. Common causes include the following: ⑴ The oil level in the oil pan is too low; check whether there are any leaks caused by poor sealing. ⑵ The engine oil has been diluted by fuel, or the engine is operating under excessive load at excessively high temperatures, causing the oil’s viscosity to decrease.

The oil warning light comes on primarily due to insufficient oil pressure in the lubrication system. Common causes include the following:

⑴ Check whether the oil level in the oil pan is insufficient, and verify if there are any leaks caused by poor sealing.

⑵ The engine oil becomes thinner in viscosity due to dilution by fuel or because the engine is overloaded and operating at excessively high temperatures.

⑶ The oil passages are blocked or the engine oil is excessively dirty, resulting in insufficient lubrication supply.

⑷ The oil pump, oil pressure relief valve, or bypass valve is stuck and malfunctioning.

⑸ The clearance between mating parts in lubrication components is excessively large—for example, the main bearing journal of the crankshaft and the bearing bush, or the connecting rod journal and the bearing bush—have suffered severe wear, or the bearing alloy has flaked off, resulting in excessive clearance. This increases oil leakage and reduces the oil pressure in the main oil passage.

⑹ The oil pressure sensor is malfunctioning.
