Henan Lubricant Franchise—Classification of Automotive Lubricant Grades

发布时间:2022年08月23日 15:51

Generally, the labels on lubricants display the viscosity grades established by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This is a viscosity classification system that divides lubricants into three categories: summer high-temperature types, winter low-temperature types, and all-season types suitable for both winter and summer conditions. Specifically, there are 6 winter-grade oils, 4 summer-grade oils, and 16 all-season oils. Next, let’s take a look at the classification levels for automotive lubricants offered by Henan Lubricant Franchise—Lubricant Levels for Automobiles.

Henan Lubricant Franchise—Automotive lubricants are categorized into several grades based on quality (service performance), including gasoline engine oils graded as SA, SB, SC, SD, SE, SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL, and SM. (China has already discontinued the SA and SB grades.)
Diesel engine oils are categorized into quality grades such as CA, CB, CC, CD, CE, CF-4, CH-4, CI-4, and CG-4 (currently, China has discontinued the CA and CB grades). Among these different quality grades, the lower the grade number, the higher the quality level, primarily reflected in superior antioxidant properties, cleaning and dispersing performance, and corrosion resistance. Gasoline engine oils following the SG grade are also required to exhibit fuel-saving effects, and gasoline engine oils after the SJ grade are expected to have minimal impact on exhaust catalysts.
Generally speaking, gasoline engine oils and diesel engine oils cannot be used interchangeably. However, some oils not only meet the requirements of a certain grade of gasoline engine oil but also satisfy the requirements of a certain grade of diesel engine oil. Such oils are known as universal oils for both gasoline and diesel engines—for example, an oil labeled "CD/SF" can be used as a CD-grade diesel oil as well as an SF-grade gasoline oil.
It is worth noting that the assessment of automotive lubricant quality grades must be conducted according to strict procedures. Not only can users not determine the quality through simple methods, but even many specialized institutions lack the necessary testing facilities. Some high-quality automotive lubricants even need to be sent abroad for evaluation, and the evaluation costs are quite high.
Henan Lubricant Franchise—Vehicle lubricants are classified by viscosity into 0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 15W, 20W, 30, and 40. The higher the number, the lower the viscosity. Those marked with “W” are winter oils, while the numbers 30 and 40 indicate summer oils.
An oil that meets only one of the viscosity grades mentioned above is called a single-grade oil. When using a single-grade oil, it should be replaced with the appropriate grade during the seasonal transition between winter and summer. With the widespread use of viscosity modifiers (or viscosity index improvers), many lubricating oils can now meet both viscosity grades. Such vehicle lubricants are referred to as multi-grade oils—also known as all-season oils—for example, 10W/30—which can be used as 10W in winter or as 30 in summer.

Henan Lubricant Franchise—You know the classification of motor oils and also understand the meanings behind different oil brands. Vehicle lubricant brands consist of two key components: quality grade and viscosity grade. For example, SF-class 15W (winter oil) is designated as SF 15W; CD-class 30 is labeled as CD 30 (summer oil); and SE-class 10W/30 (a general-purpose oil for both winter and summer, with 10W for winter and 30 for summer).
